What happens after you make contact with me?
Once your message has been received, I will follow up your enquiry and we will book a telephone call at a time to suit you. This is free and will last around 30-40 minutes. It is a chance for you to discuss briefly what is causing you concern. You can ask any questions that you might have and I may also ask you a few questions to make sure my skills fit with your concerns.
If you feel comfortable booking a session after speaking with me, then I will send you a Welcome Pack with a contract and privacy policy. This needs to be signed and returned to me at least 2 days before your session.
Is face to face the only way to have a session?
No, my counselling is remote via video call, telephone and in some case via email once we have had a few sessions together.
Do I need to attend therapy every week for it to work?
You can book your sessions at a frequency to suit you and your lifestyle. If you want to tackle issues head on and with consistency, then a weekly session may be best for you.
If you need time to process a session, then every fortnight or every three weeks may work better for you.
I would suggest at least one session per month for therapy to have benefit for you.
I also offer Single Session therapy for those wanting to talk and acquire some coping strategies; if one session is enough then you are under no obligation to return, but you would of course be welcome to make contact again should you find one session was not enough later on.
It is down to the individual person and you will not be forced to return if you feel it wasn’t for you, or that you got out of it what you came for.
How much does a session cost?
£55 for remote 50 minute sessions, £65 for 1 hour outdoor sessions.
The fee for the session is also due no less than 2 days before the session, via BACS. A receipt will be provided.
Fees are subject to review and you will be informed of any increases to fees with 30 days’ notice.
Unpaid fees will be subject to a recovery process, so it is best that you pay as per the policy in order to avoid any issues in the future with accrued fees.
How long does each session last for?
50 minutes for remote sessions, 1 hour for outdoor sessions.
If attending via video call, then please make sure you access the meeting link a few minutes before your session start time.
If attending over the telephone or via email, again, please make yourself available a few minutes before the appointment time to allow a smooth start.
In all cases you must be alone (those accompanying you can wait in the waiting room), with no distractions and your mobile phone on silent or switched off for the duration of the session.
If you are running late, then please inform me as soon as possible. It may still be possible to have a shortened session. Non-attendance and lateness will still incur the full session fee as it is not possible to offer a refund.
What happens in a first session?
Please visit the What to Expect tab on the Home page.
What if I have to cancel and I cannot attend a session remotely?
I operate a 48-hour cancellation policy.
If you cancel with more than 48 hours’ notice then the fee is not chargeable.
If you cancel with under 48 hours’ notice then the session fee is chargeable in full.
How will I know when therapy is no longer needed?
If you end up working with me for 6 sessions then we will have a review of your progress in session 6. We will look at if you are reaching your original goals, if your goals have changed, if you are happy with the way the sessions run and if you are happy with me as your therapist.
You will not be forced to stay longer than you wish to. If you feel you still have things to work on then we will work together until you decide you have achieved what you wanted to.
If I feel after a few sessions I feel that I am not the right therapist for you then I will be honest about that too, and we can discuss next steps. You have control over your therapy.
