An update on accessing Counselling
An update on accessing Counselling

In light of the restrictions we are experiencing with the precautions of self-isolation and social distancing regarding Covid-19 this means that Via Vitae Counselling Services is having to adapt, alongside many other businesses. More remote solutions to clients were in the pipeline but it was not anticipated that they would ever be needed on this scale so soon.

They are a very personal choice and I acknowledge not suitable for all, however I want to be able to be as flexible as possible within my skill set to ensure that those of you requiring additional support at this time can indeed access me within the realms of safety and data protection for however long the Government restrictions remain in place. Your progress and your self-care remain vital in these challenging times- perhaps even more so, therefore I hope these methods will assist with consistency and continuity for your existing therapy or the beginning of your therapy.

Currently I can offer:

Telephone counselling: up to 50 minutes of support, mirroring that of a face to face session in terms of looking at the issues you are going through and what we can do to help you through those problems. This will require you to have Whatsapp on your phone as this provides better privacy and encryption than default phone apps. In addition to this you will need access to a quiet space for the session slot with no interruptions. Instructions and guidance will be provided if you decide to opt for this, along with a revised privacy policy detailing how your data will be protected.

Email counselling: up to 50 minutes of support, used much like instant messaging in how I will respond. It means any on-going tasks can be scanned and discussed to use in the session; most tasks will also be very transferable in this format. It also provides an alternative for anyone who may experience anxiety on telephone calls. Instructions and guidance will be provided if you decide to opt for this, along with a revised privacy policy detailing how your data will be protected.

The contract now reflects these modes of counselling too.

I cannot currently provide online video calling sessions but I am looking into this for future business continuity solutions.

There are obvious advantages and disadvantages to both solutions and this is why I highlight that it is a very personal choice.

If either of the two options are the kind of support you think you can benefit from, to ensure you keep making progress until face to face sessions can resume, then please do feel free to contact me and we can arrange a session at a time to suit you. I will of course respect any decision that you decide to make, but I wanted to keep you up to date of all developments concerning your access to counselling with me.

Wishing you good health
Kind regards
Lindsay
